What if incentive programs were for everyone? That’s the question Incentive Solutions’ founder Steve Damerow kept coming back to in the early 1990s.
At the time, he worked for one of the leading incentive companies in the incentives industry. Where he worked, the strategy was simple. Sell travel incentives to organizations who wanted to motivate their high-performing, top 20%. And it wasn’t just Damerow’s workplace that clung to this strategy.
It was the entire incentives industry.
So Damerow did some research. He studied technology trends, cultural shifts in the workplace and motivation science. What he uncovered was shocking:
Managers needed to motivate the majority of their people to move the needle on their business goals. But the majority wasn’t their top 20%. It was average-performing employees, channel partners, salespeople, and B2B customers.
For Damerow, the writing was on the wall. It was time to democratize incentives and do business better.
Back at work, he fiercely campaigned for his new insights to become the new norm. But not long after his discovery, he got the boot. He packed up his office, his incentive ideas, and vowed to lead the market with his own incentive company. One that understood motivation, strategic rewards and technology for all. In 1994, Incentive Solutions was born, bringing in a cutting-edge approach to incentives.
Today, Mark Herbert leads Incentive Solutions as President and CEO. Over 200 clients and millions of redeemed rewards later, we’ve become experts in motivation and all things incentives.
