Denver healthcare company adopts its own health and wellness incentive program

A new employee incentive program rooted in health and wellness has been adopted by the HCA HealthONE healthcare system in the Denver metro area. More than 9,000 employees at the company are expected to participate in the new offering from incentaHEALTH.

One of the largest employers and the largest healthcare system in the Denver area, HealthONE will work in cooperation with incentaHEALTH for the "Taking Care of People Who Take Care of People" program. In honor of their work in caring for patients in the Denver area, HealthONE employees will now be taken care of by the employee incentive health and wellness program.

"We take great pride in creating a healthy work environment at our hospitals, surgery centers and clinics because we want our facilities to be places where staff can thrive," said Becky Adix, vice president of human resources at HealthONE. "This partnership with incentaHEALTH complements our existing efforts to foster a supportive, health conscious community - while allowing our employees to focus on what we do best: world-class, patient-centered healthcare."

The rate of sickness among healthcare employees is typically high as they usually work long hours in stressful, fast-paced environments in close proximity to those who are sick or recovering from an illness. Unfortunately, many healthcare workers do not have direct access to top-notch care when they need it, so a program like the one offered by incentaHEALTH is welcome in many instances.

"Combining the latest technological advances, including fully-automated private kiosks monitoring weight, blood pressure, body mass index and digital photographing with a personalized approach that tailors expert advice on nutrition and exercise makes the incentaHEALTH program one of a kind," said Todd McGuire, co-founder and chief technology officer of incentaHEALTH. "We also employ a unique motivational approach and actually pay employees to lose weight."

The success of employee incentive programs that focus on health and wellness initiatives has been well-documented. According to the Portland Business Journal, The Partners Group recently increased the rate of employee participation in its wellness program to 100 percent by providing financial incentives. Many wellness programs that do not offer incentives suffer from low participation rates of 10 to 15 percent, rendering the program largely ineffective.
