Employee incentive programs come in a variety of shapes and sizes, from cash rewards to wellness programs. And, more and more companies, school districts, and even counties are becoming familiar with their benefits.
Looking to improve the health of their districts employees, the Houston Independent School District (HISI) created and opened an impressive employee wellness center. The center is designed to invite staff members to find it convenient and affordable to become healthier and stay that way.
Along with the benefits to its 25,000 employees, the school district is expecting to limit excessive healthcare costs.
Mike McCollum, president of Concentra Health Solutions, the firm operating the wellness center, explains “We want to revolutionize employer health and wellness programs, delivering comprehensive medical services directly to employees when and where they need them." He added, “We are pleased to be part of an innovative health care program that works to improve the health and well-being of employees."
With healthcare cost rising, and national health levels declining, wellness programs are an effective tool to help control burdensome rises in healthcare expenses. But, it goes beyond the bottom line; these programs can be life-saving.
In the Manatee County school district in Florida, the employee wellness program in place provided the avenue for finding one employee’s early-stage pancreatic cancer. Early diagnosis and treatment played a definite part in saving an employee’s life.
